Statistics and Information on African American Teenage Pregnancy

Considering the number of states under the United States of America, it is no wonder that it is considered one of the most populated areas in the world. Unfortunately, its population seem to be growing larger and larger as its birth rate increases. One of the rates considered in estimating the birth rate is the teenage pregnancy rate.

The United States has had the highest number of teenage pregnancy as it remains on top among all the countries listed. Even the lying low of its birth rate for how many years did nothing to remove itself from being the country with the highest teen pregnancy rate. Generally, teenage pregnancy varies with the ethnicity of the person.

African American teenage pregnancy in the United States is quite rampant.

One of the major reasons how the United States remained on top against all of the countries with high teen pregnancy rate is the figures of young Black females who find themselves getting pregnant. In a survey it showed that African American females are more likely to conceive during their adolescence period compared to White females.

Around twenty three percent of the recorded teenage pregnancy births in 1995 were contributed by young African American women. In 1996 record, the statistics of African American teenage pregnancy was nine percent. This figure was the lowest percent ever recorded. Another statistics showed that pregnancy between the ages of fifteen and nineteen has declined during the years in between 1991 and 1996 for African American. Even so, African American teenage pregnancy rate is still eighty five possible births in a population of one thousand.

In a more current research, the results show that the rate of teenage pregnancy between young black women had declined. The figures show that from 25.4 percent pregnant adolescent girls in every one thousand population in the year 2003, the rate decreased into 23.6 in the following year. On the other hand, in every one thousand white females, 10.2 of them are classified as teen expectant mothers. Comparing this with the rate of adolescent pregnancy in White females, we can conclude that teenage pregnancy in Black women is doubles in amount.

African American girls are also not exempted from the possible effects of teenage pregnancy. They also experience the possible consequences of getting pregnant at a young age. And similarly like any other teenage pregnancy, babies born to young mothers have the highest risk of dying upon birth.

Teenage pregnancy in Black Americans is generally not different from White females. The difference is that it happens to this race more frequent. In accordance to it, the ways to prevent teenage pregnancy in young African American girls are also not different.
