Statistics of Teenage Abortion

Teenage abortion never fails to gain public attention over time. We see it all over the papers, and on a heated debate. While people take sides, pitch in views and judge a seemingly identified miscalculated action in the practice of abortion, it does not seem to pull the plug out of the growing rate of teenage abortion in the globe.

Statistics will tell us that in the United States alone, quite a number of teenagers are tallied to have committed the abortion procedure. Year in and year out, about fifty percent of this practice is performed on women who are under the age of twenty five and are as young as eighteen and nineteen years of age. Worse, these teenagers, who are convinced to take the easy way out through terminating their pregnancies, are getting younger and younger. Facts claim that these misguided teenagers who were nineteen years old women have dropped dramatically to as young as seventeen-year-old teenagers. If this trend continues, it is imminent that more and more teenagers will be convinced to put abortion into practice if they will be faced with unplanned pregnancy dilemma.

At this day and age, about twenty-one states in America entail the permission of parents before the conduct of abortion. This gets to show that abortion is actually legal in United States provided that the patient who undergoes the practice will seek her parents’ permission on the matter. On the other hand, about fourteen states in America require notification from parents. The law says this is to notify the parents but not necessarily to ask for their permission to proceed with the procedure.

Teenagers who engage in abortion can be expected to build up psychological troubles. This possibility can most likely lead them to admission to hospitals making them more prone to mental illnesses and eventually to psych facility admission. Moreover, since more and more younger women are reported to believe and see teenage abortion as the only solution to their problem, it is a probability that about forty-three percent of the female race in the United States might have undergone the procedure even before they get to reach the age of forty-five.

With all the complications associated to teenage abortion, it is important that all abortion facts be laid before these teenagers make impulsive decisions in their desire to eliminate an unwanted pregnancy. After all, terminating the pregnancy does not exactly terminate the problem down the drain.
