Teenage Pregnancy and Abortion Pills

Apart from surgical abortions, there are abortion pills that are used as an alternative means for early abortions. When a woman induces an abortion pill, this kind of abortion is said to be a medical abortion. Just recently, the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved two abortion pills that are used to cause medical abortion. Both mifepristione and mosiprostol are the active ingredients of both approved abortion pills and when combined, they claim to have a very high success rate of abortion with basically up to ninety-five to ninety-seven percentage of effectiveness.

These abortion pills are entirely different from what is commonly known as morning-after pills or Emergency Contraception pills. If emergency contraception pills are used to prevent an imminent pregnancy, the abortion pills are used to terminate a confirmed pregnancy. Emergency contraception pills are usually taken after an unprotected sexual intercourse. Similarly, the emergency contraception pills are to be taken right after the intercourse. It is best when taken within twenty-four hours but is still effective up to seventy-two hours after the intercourse. Once confirmed to be pregnant, abortion pills, on the other hand, can be used to terminate the pregnancy for so long as it has not been over the eight week of the mother’s pregnancy.

Most women prefer the conduct of abortion through these abortion pills instead of the surgical abortions carried out in the premise of a medical clinic because abortion through pills can be carried out at the comfort of one’s home. In this case however, it is advised that a mother intending an abortion through pills must consult a health professional to secure a prescription of the dosage of both mifepristone and misoprostol abortion pills.

After a dosage is given, the mifepristone dose is usually taken in first followed by the misoprostol after about twenty-four to seventy-two hours of consumption. The intake of the abortion pills will provoke the passage and release of the fetal tissues. With that said, it is only safe and vital to be able to determine if the pregnancy is completely aborted by subjecting for a round of check-up after two weeks of pill inducement.

There are two stages that take place at the absorption of two abortion pills in the body. First, the mifepristone will cause to stop the circulation of progesterone in the body. Progesterone is a hormone responsible for the maintenance of a woman’s pregnancy. In its absence, the cervix and the uterine lining are likely to soften. Misoprostol, on the second stage, will cause the uterus to shrink and tighten, leading to a case of miscarriage. The first stage will provoke initial bleeding but on the second stage, a heavier bleeding is to be expected. In the case of severe bleeding however, the amount of blood lost will cause you to weaken. When this happens, medical attention is advised.
