Information on Teenage Pregnancy: Be Aware of It

pic1Teenage pregnancy is a considerable social issue that needs an open mind to be able to understand and support the individuals involved in these cases. Thus, information on teenage pregnancy is a very sensitive issue to discuss.

By definition, teenage pregnancy is the situation where an adolescent becomes pregnant. The term generally refers to underage girls who become pregnant. It is one of the worse setbacks any teenage girl could probably face. The incidence of these situations varies in every country. However, it is becoming quite rampant in the United States. In fact, it has become a national crisis in the United States.

Teenage pregnancy in the United States had been slowly declining over the past few years. But presently, the increase of these cases had once again taken place. In spite of its decline in the years before, the number of pregnant teenagers is still high. It is most common between unwed adolescents.

Information on teenage pregnancy shows that participation in sexual activities is the main reason behind these incidents. Most times, the said sexual activities are only done only because the involved individuals are curious about sex. Primarily, these incidents are actually considered accidents. This is because in most cases, the involved persons did not intend to become pregnant. As a young lady becomes more active in intercourse, the risk of getting pregnant also increases.

There are different reasons behind its occurrence that can be significantly added to information on teenage pregnancy. Traditional gender roles can be an important factor. Another thing is the case of early marriage between teenagers.

Contraceptives. Sex education is legally provided in some countries like United States, but there are also countries that do not exercise these educational lessons. In these cases, lack of knowledge of access of birth control prevents potentially or already sexual active teenagers. Being unaware of other birth control measures also limits the individual’s possibility of not getting pregnant.

Relationships with Age Inconsistency. There are also studies that indicate girls having relationships with older males is a contributing factor. Also, pregnant girls in these relationships are most likely to continue with pregnancy.

Sexual Abuse. Studies show that rape is one of the negative attributing factors to teenage pregnancy. Girls who participated in sexual activities before reaching the age of 15 are most likely to have experienced sexual abuse.

Childhood Environment. It is also another cause for teenage pregnancy. Most girls who were exposed to domestic violence and family disputes during their childhood are expected to get pregnant at an early age.  The possibility of pregnancy between these girls increases along with their antagonistic childhood experience.  GP
