Teenage pregnancy is a very complex problem. The rise of teenage pregnancy rates should not be attributed to mere physical effects of being on the verge of puberty. Rather, it is a product of various psychological, mental, emotional, sociological, and cultural factors that may eventually encourage a teenager to engage in a risky sexual behavior.
It should be noted that programs directed towards teenage pregnancy prevention should be complex as well. It should include various elements in the society such as the family, the school, the church, the government and other social organizations. Programs that aim to prevent teenage pregnancy should be based on actual studies why most teenagers actually engage in sexually risky activity. Among the most common aspects of these programs are sex education, introduction to contraceptive use, and parental guidance.

In the case of the United States, the rate of teenage pregnancy is still considerably high and the effects of teenage pregnancy have gripped almost every aspect in the American life. In fact, the country has the highest teenage pregnancy rate among all the countries in the western region of the globe.

The cost of pregnancy in the United States is very alarming. According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, the government of the United States spends as much as $9.1 billion of public funds for teenage birth in 2004. Such expenses include costs for public assistance, child care and welfare, maternal and child health care, and other pertinent expenses.

Teenage pregnancy is continuously declining in America since the introduction of contraceptives in 1990. However, despite the fact that the teenage pregnancy rate is experiencing a steady decline, the U.S. teenage pregnancy rate still remains to be among the top among all the industrialized nations around the globe. In fact, teenage pregnancy problems in America continue to be one of the most alarming teen problem in the Western world.
According to the most recent national health surveys of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), more than one million teenagers of the United States become pregnant every year. Of this one million, almost twenty percent are giving birth to their first child.

Excessive itching of the palms and soles is not one of the normal signs of pregnancy. Rather, it may be a symptom of cholestasis. In addition to intense itching, the mother may also experience abdominal signs.
Her eyes and skin may also turn yellowish. Dark-colored urine and light-color bowel movements are also considered as common signs of this condition.
